Group size
Usually I teach my students in individual one-to-one classes or in small groups up to 4 people.
Making an appointment
The lessons are arranged directly (ideally 2 x 1,5 hours per week) with the students (or their assistant), either via E-Mail or WhatsApp.
Location
Lessons can be held in person at the student’s office or online via a communication software of their choice. It can also be a combination of both, e.g. when one of us is feeling unwell.
Course content
The focus lies always on the needs of my students and in some cases their employers. Especially with beginners we can start with everyday language and then go on to written and spoken business communication.
If needed, I can proofread business correspondence (after signing an NDA), help with vocabulary, syntax and grammar in presentations or prepare and simulate important talks with clients/colleagues/co-workers and superiors.
Duration
The duration oft the course depends on the level, but mainly also on the individual pace of the students (levels A1 and A2: 50-70 classes; levels B1, B2, C1, C2: 70-150 classes).
With individual lessons you will have the advantage of going to the next chapter, when it is really possible. One chapter could be finished in 3 to 4 lesson units, while the next one could take longer.
Cancellation
Cancellation of appointments can always happen, but I emphasize, that frequent cancellations lessen the study progress and also prolong the course unnecessarily. In case of a mild sickness I prefer just switching to an online lesson, if it is possible.
I don’t charge lessons that I myself have cancelled. However, students have to cancel within 24 hours before the lesson begins, otherwise I charge the price for the whole lesson unit, as part of my 24-hours-cancellation-policy.
Prices and Invoicing
I charge solely classes of 1,5 hours, because this is the duration that has proved ideal over the past years.
A class of 1,5 h costs 90 Euros. The price remains the same, whether it is an online class or it is held at the students‘ office. Also the number of students (max. 4) does not change the price.
For thorough proofreading, e.g. of business correspondence, longer homeworks (from B2) and the drafting and correcting of tests to every book chapter (around 10 per level) I additionally charge 60 Euros per hour. From experience I can say, this will apply approx. 0-2 times a month.
I send invoices at the end of every month. They do not include value-added tax, because as a small scale enterprise, I am not required to do so by Austrian tax law regulation. My tax number is ATU69989168. I would ask you to transfer the payment within 2 weeks after the invoice was sent to you.
Teaching Materials
The books I am using are „Pluspunkt Deutsch – Österreich“ (Cornelsen) for levels A1 to B1 as well as "Aspekte Neu" (Klett) for the levels B1+ to C1. For C2 it is "Erkundungen" (Schubert), and upon request "PONS Bürokommunikation" (PONS) or additional exercise books for grammar/vocabulary, etc. They are purchased by the students.
From time to time I will send links on interesting topics in podcasts, news articles und documentaries. There will be homeworks and short tests to every book chapter as well.
ÖSD-Österreichisches Sprachdiplom (Language Certificate)
I am always happy, when I feel, that a big progress was made. From experience I must say, that the pace and the progression are varying due to different time investments and motivations. The ÖSD-exams are a good, objective means to make sure, that competence levels have been achieved. And it immensely boosts the students‘ motivation and –when passed – their confidence. When the students (or their employers) wish to take such an exam, the must sign up for it at one of the language schools in Vienna. They are offered regularly and we will prepare very well for them, with material, that I will provide.
I hope, that I have helped you with these detailed information on my classes.
